The Kitchen Island that wasn’t Blue

As is often the case, our clients for this project wanted their new kitchen to be the centre of the family home. The space we had to work with was ample to be able to achieve this.

Having previously seen blue shaker kitchens and loved them, they had set their hearts on a blue kitchen island. Through various meetings and discussions, as well as our site surveys,  we were able to ascertain with our clients that the room could afford a tall bank of blue shaker style kitchen cabinetry in Ocean Blue, complemented by a large kitchen island in a lighter colour – Porcelain as well as an Oak coloured breakfast bar. This combination of colours and textures works beautifully together and enjoys all the light that floods into the kitchen.

Key Elements

A really important feature of our Clients’ room was a stunning picture window that showcases a lovely garden beyond, which is visible when standing at the kitchen island, while using the Bora induction hob as well as from the sink run, with a classic white ceramic undermount bowl.

At the other end of the sink run we designed an over counter kitchen dresser, with bi-fold soft close doors, where all small appliances and provisions can be stored but easily accessed – our client shared that most of the time the doors are left almost fully opened, because they look as beautiful open displaying everything stored as they do closed.

Along the pantry wall there are floor to ceiling larder units as well as the AEG ovens and the bank of cabinetry also houses a glamorous mirrored wall drinks & cocktails station.

The kitchen island is an elegantly imposing statement with endless drawers to store everything needed and of course, a chilled wine cabinet. All the expected appliances are integrated and the light from the Jim Lawrence glass pendants highlight the Britannica Quarts worksurfaces.

Open shelving above the sink is used principally to add an aesthetic feature and ensures that whichever angle the kitchen space is approached from, it looks beautiful.

Our responsibility with every space we design, is to incorporate all the practical and functional elements that are needed, while creating a beautiful space on time and in budget, whether it is a client’s kitchen, bedroom, home office or living space.

This kitchen project is a good example of delivering on that.
