Strong Colours and Bright Spaces
We visited Mark and Helen at their home after a local builder we work with was undertaking their home renovation project and recommended us.
Because we were involved at the early stages of the building work, we were able to put forward ideas to resolve the issues the clients had with their existing kitchen which was dated, dark and unusually, essentially in two separate rooms and a third with the dining area. As well as that, the new kitchen design we proposed would be sympathetic to the surrounding spaces taking into account natural light, functionality and practical considerations. Working closely with their builder, we were able to make suggestions to achieve great interior spaces for the client beyond the main kitchen areas.
Key Elements
Mark and Helen wanted a dark blue kitchen but a light space – we looked at options to have two colours for the cabinetry but eventually achieved the right aesthetic by keeping all the cabinetry dark and the floors and walls light – also suggesting glass doors between rooms off the kitchen and adding windows to ensure the space was bright and light.
A sizeable peninsula with plenty of built in storage is the new home of the cooking area – with a BORA downdraft induction hob that eliminates the need for any overhead extraction, leaving an uninterrupted view throughout the space.
A pantry style double larder is perfect to store all non perishables, and cabinetry throughout the kitchen space ensures everything has a place – the additional countertop area designed next to the refrigerator means items can be placed there, leaving a beautiful and clutter free space on the peninsula. All the usual appliances were incorporated, including AEG ovens and a boiling water Quooker Classic tap, in patinated brass to complement the door furniture and sockets.
The whole kitchen and dining space, which was essentially three relatively dark rooms, is now a bright, open and stylish space, with everything needed and wanted.
